Monoprice Above Fireplace Pull-Down Full-Motion Articulating TV Wall Mount Bracket - for TVs 55in to 100in Max Weight 154lbs VESA Patterns Up to 800x400 Rotating Height AdjustableI bought mine directly from Monoprice. This mount gets the job done at a reasonable price point.
You must be handy to install this on your own, as the instructions are in size 2 font and are NOT accurate with regards to proper install height to allow the mount and TV to clear the fireplace mantel when pulled fully down. I have a 7 3/4 in mantel and the instructions said I could install just 5 inches above. WRONG. There is an identical mount on Amazon being repackaged and sold as another brand (Aeon-50300) that has an installation video on youtube. I followed their instructions to install the mount 7 inches above an 8 inch mantel. Post install, my 60 In LCD does not hit the ceilling and still has 1 inch of clearance when pulled down.
My studs over the fireplace were further than 16 inches apart, so like others, I installed a 1 in thick piece of wood (bed slats) across the studs to mount to. Unfortunately, the studs don't evenly span the center of the mantel, so it gives the false appearance that the TV isn't centered either. Even with a 60 in LCD, the mount (and wood slat are very visible beneath the tv when the TV is retracted. I'll eventually have to paint it the mount to match my wall. I may even add a bit more wood to center the look of the mount on the wall. The mount is centered above the mantel, but not centered on the wood.
Overall, the mount is very sturdy and like others have also noted, pitches downward with the weight of the LCD mounted. No biggie. I've almost sprained my wrist tightening the pitch adjustmentioned screws on the mount. I'm happy.
This is a great mount that serves its intended purpose.
A couple items to note -
- You will need to adjust the compression spring for the weight of your TV as people have stated. There is actually a little chart on the inside of the bracket behind the spring that shows weight. This is how you know what to adjust the spring to for the weight of your TV. I only pre-adjusted before mounting and never had to adjust again once mounted. The chart is small but it is there.
- Also this mount does work on studs that are not 16 inch centered. The backplate that mounts to the wall is 16 inches but the actual rectangular plate that mounts to the back of the TV is around 20 inches. So you can slide the TV to the left or right by around 3-4 inches. My studs were off center by around 1.5 - 2 inches and my TV is perfectly centered to the fireplace.
- As other reviews have mentioned, depending on your brand of TV and size, you may have the mount show below or above your TV. I mounted a 60 inch Samsung and did not expect to have any problems. But based on where the mounting holes are on the TV and the holes on the bracket the mount was going to show by about 1-2 inches. I was surprised to find this on a 60 inch TV. In the end, just like another review mentioned, I drilled holes into the bracket just below where the other holes stopped. This allowed me to adjust the mount by almost 2 full inches and now none of it is visible from behind my TV. You should measure the bracket and the TV mount holes before mounting. Luckily I did and it saved me a lot of time because I did not need to take it down again.
- I followed the chart that came with the mount as far as mounting height to avoid hitting your mantle when pulled down and it worked fine. When in the full upright position, the TV is about 2-3 inches above the mantle which looks good.
- The tilt and rotation work perfectly fine. I have full mobility to move the TV in any angle needed for my room.
Overall, if I did not have to drill additional holes to hide the mount, I probably would have given this a 5/5 stars.
Definitely a great value compared to the competitors
Instructions aren't the greatest... you definitely have to think hard before drilling if you care about the height of the TV above the mantel. Otherwise very workable... aside from positioning, actual setup was fairly easy.
I mounted a 70" TV that was well under the weight limit.
My biggest complaint is that the TV always tilts forward even when I don't want it to. It's not a deal breaker by any means, but something I wish was better about it.
I bought this as a cheap alternative to the MantelMount. I'm pretty happy with it as it served my purpose. But there are some issues.
The picture I've posted is as low as it will go. So make sure you mount it low enough if you're trying to match sitting eye level. My TV is 60" and bottom heavy so the up and down tilt needs to be super tightened to keep it from pivoting down on it's own. And its tough to pivot again once tightened. Also, the bolts that came with it weren't long enough for my tv. As you can see from the picture, mine required extensions because the back was curved. So I bought longer bolts (and brick anchors). Lastly, the grips on the bottom handle are super cheap. Basically koozies placed over flat metal.
All that said, I'm happy with it because works and I saved a lot of cash versus the brand name mounts.
Solidly constructed, decent instructions (in readable English!) with all parts labeled. Even came with a little bubble level to get the wall mount up properly.
I mounted mine with eight Tapcon concrete bolts, through drywall into fireplace brick behind it, and it feels solid. The "up to 63 inches" in the spec is clearly conservative, since my 65 inch screen is mounted fine - big screens are getting lighter all the time, apparently.

Easy to install. I do not know why anyone would spend $399.00 US dollars on the other brand of the over the fireplace mount when you can get this one and save money. I installed a LG 65 inch 4k tv that weighs 51.7 pounds and it works PERFECTLY! I'm going to mount a sound bar with all the money I saved buying this monoprice over the overpriced fireplace mount. You would either be a millionaire or misinformed if you went with the overpriced fireplace mount instead of this monoprice mount. Comes nicely packaged with all the lag bolts and screws. In case anyone wants to know, my mantel is 9.75 inches deep and I mounted the bottom of the mount 5 inches above my mantel. Great purchase.
I installed this today as part of a Christmas present. I did it myself in ~ three hours. The one thing I had a problem with was the diagram indicating mounting the wallboard X inches above the mantel. That's clear enough, until the next steps of assembling the pantograph and TV mount plate, which threw off the measurements due to it being notably higher than the wallboard.
Unless you've got ample wall space above the fireplace opening, I would advise pre-assembling and taking measurements for the assembly as-mounted to your TV-that includes a soundbar, if one intends to mount it to the TV. There's enough slots in the brackets to optimize the entire assembly, within the limits of ones' wall height above the firebox. FWIW, I asked before purchasing if this mount would work with a VESA 100X200 pattern. Nobody answered, but I noticed similar mounts that did claim to accommodate that spacing. This will, also-but you have to elongate two slots on the bottom bracket (the one the handle bolts to).
With a TCL 43" TV, the entire depth of the mount assembly and TV is 7.75", to give a sense of scale. I'm sure it'll be about the same with other, current TVs. I'd guess an average wood mantel would be constructed with a 1X8 top, so a TV ought to be relatively flush with that mantel edge. As far as adjusting tension, I found it was easiest to adjust the jackscrew while the TV was fully down. I knew I had it right when it didn't try to "float" back up.
Overall, I found this mount to be good quality, had comprehensive hardware package/tools, fairly straightforward to install and made TV watching comfortable again.
TL; DR; Best value for the money but installation can be tricky.
5 stars to all the helpful reviews on this product.
I'm usually not a huge fan of a big bargain (yes, really) because there is usually a reason for it.
So when I was considering this product (which was basically 1/3 price of major competitor's), I carefully tried to examine all risks involved with purchasing this one but all the helpful reviews made it easier.
And after I've successfully installed it without expert help, I am so, so glad and satisfied with my setup.
All the components that come with this mount are right kind of quality; Heavy, sturdy and looks durable.
Small parts came in nicely labeled bags so that was a pleasant surprise and I was able to make sense of installation manual after reading helpful reviews here.
My setup: Samsung 58", 44lb. No problem in terms of VESA or weight.
Things that helped me the most:
* Adjust spring strength BEFORE you install the mount (as indicated by one of the helpful reviews). The little chart that tells you how much you have to tighten or loosen the spring is a bit on the conservative side. As others have noted, initial spring strength is insanely strong so just be aware.
* Watch other similar product instruction video to find out how much clearance above the mantle you need (this was also suggested by one of the helpful reviews). In my case, the mantle was only 5 inches deep so installing it 5.5 inches above gave it more than enough clearance.
Things that I see now as risks:
* Back of my TV was curved a bit and two of its screw holes were deep; screws and spacer that came with the product didn't fit. Luckily my old TV mount had matching spacers and I had to make a trip to a hardware store to get the correct screws.
* VESA pattern on TVs can have a different layout. Mine started at the very top and ended somewhere 2/3 way down. Brackets that come are adjustable to some extent but you have to take this into account when you're mounting up the TV. For me, the bottom handle of the mount is completely behind the TV even after I extended its length the longest. I actually like this better (and it doesn't really interfere with getting the TV up and down anyway) since it looks cleaner without the handle showing. Biggest area this can affect is the amount of space you need on the wall. Depending on where VESA pattern is on your TV, you may need different amounts of wall space even though you have the same TV size. This is why some people have said that they needed to drill an extra hole in the bracket to make the TV + bracket fit their wall space, etc.
Overall, I did have to make a couple of trips to the hardware store for this and trying to discover installation gotchas took some effort but I am very satisfied with this product and would say is worth the effort.
First, yes. Given that it's about half the price of its competitors, or some even smaller fraction, that's a huge selling point. Second, it's Monoprice, so that helps the first point, while still providing a measure of its sufficient quality.
But a couple of quibbles. Yes, the instructions are printed tiny. However, they're in perfectly fine English, so that's a tremendous plus. Somewhere here there's a link to them so you could view them on your computer at whatever zoom level you want. I could read them, and I'm over 40.
The biggest issue that I have, is that it wants to tilt forward; I have a 55" LG, and I really had to crank down on the tension to make it not do so quite as much. And yes, turning the screw to loosen it is a real pain.
All in all though, pretty decent, and my neck thanks... me.
Just installed it last night. I still have to adjust it a bit to get a full extension when pulled down but from what I've seen and played with, this is a good mount, albeit expensive. I installed this over my direct vent gas fireplace (it also has a fan to blow the hot air into the room and not let if "float" up into the TV). I do think the directions should give better examples of how to determine the mounting location above the mantel as it is somewhat confusing. If planning on using this mount when building a house, buy the mount first to determine the best location for the AC and low-voltage boxes so that they are not in the way of the main mount. I had to use some hardwood 2x2 lumber (painted black to match the mount) and 4" steel cabinet screws to give me some distance between the back of the mount and my existing dual AC and HDMI/Cable boxes.
