CHEFTRONIC SM986-Red Standing Mixer, One Size, Red

I purchased this do to the reviews I read online about it. First of all, I would like to say that I have been looking for a KitchenAid Mixer for some time now. I"m often watching for the "best deal" for a KitchenAid and just never could take the plunge!! I was reading reviews on the KitchenAid's and most of their complaints was.....w/ mixing bread dough the gears would wear out. Well, they were plastic. Then, I read that KitchenAid had replaced the plastic gears for steel ones. So, again I went to looking for the best deal. Wow, the prize doubled! So, I forgot about it. Then I came across this Cheftronics. All I could really find was reviews on Amazon. I tried to find out where they sold. It looked like to me that Sears possibly carries them. They didn't have much of a website. But, it is a 650 Watt motor (I might add that's more power then the KitchenAid Pro). As well as the gears were made of steal. It has simple functions. All the attachments work well!. I made a cake, icing and filling for the cupcake. We put that sucker to the test! For a full 45 min, that motor was in action. Granted, it wasn't bread dough!! That's my next adventure to try on it next! Now, some of the features you get with the KitchenAid, attachments et all, You do not get this option for the Cheftronics stand mixer. Doesn't matter much to me, because I would never use them. If you are looking for a good mixer to stand up to your baking needs.....this is my opinions thus far, is an awesome mixer. My daughter was even able to use with ease. It DOES come with suction cups of the bottom to keep is from running around your counter. Again, I'm fine with that. The splash guard I don't mind either. It removes and cleans easy. You are not able to put the attachments in the dishwasher. Again, not a worry of mine because it's easy to clean and I hand wash pots/pans, etc. I don't like to put some things in the dishwasher. I'm hoping, that when I start using for bread dough/ pizza dough.....I still feel the same way about this mixer! I'm extremely pleased! One more thing to add is, the attachments don't miraculously travel up the sides on ANY mixer! You always have scrape the sides down. I saw multiple posts about this on multiple stand mixers. Again, not anything I worry about. So, if you are looking for a good stand mixer at 1/3 of the price of the KitchenAid....I highly recommend!

I also did look at consumer reports/good housekeeping and this wasn't listed in any of their reviews. I took a chance and took the plunge.
I honestly don't think you will be happy with it. Unless, it doesn't pass the dough test:) Hope this helps as I read tons of reviews on my purchases when it comes to over $100!!

I really needed a mixer upgrade considering how much I bake, but could not afford the price tag of the competition. To put in perspective I bake anywhere from 2-4 loves of bread per week. I have not purchased a loaf of bread in almost 3 years.
With more than 5c of flour in a dense dough, such as a brioche, the head does wobble a bit, but I was able to comfortably push that to about 6c. I tried truly pushing it with 9c of flour in a pretzel dough and it didn't do well at all and I was afraid I was going to break the poor thing.
Now, you can get a refurb Kitchenaid Pro for around $200-250, so, if you bake any more than I do, I'd heavily recommend going that route and spending the extra money, but if you don't bake bread that often, then this thing is perfect.
It does do batters extraordinary well, and I was able to whisk half a gallon of heavy cream in to butter in about 10m.

I love it. It's got two fatal flaws: how do we order replacement parts or additional parts? Why is one blade so horribly scratched it looks like it's met Grendel? It's not, I repeat not, flawed as of yet. It's a professional line seen in the industry, so I won't knock it. It really isn't a cheap machine, and it's kind of...my favorite...when I think about it and my KitchenAid. I love the way it opens and closes, the guard, and the feel in my hand when I close it down. The drawback is that with the cover you have to lift it off to scrape the bottom of the bowl.

**KitchenAid mixers have the same small gap between blades and the bottom of the bowls, but may not require nearly as much work with extra scraping, which I'm monitoring and will update on.**

Mommy never plays favorites. Now beat it!

Until my youngest went through culinary classes and complained about the mixer I had at home (which only had the beaters like a hand mixer), I never thought of getting a different stand mixer. I can't really afford a Kitchen Aid mixer. So the price on this mixer was excellent.
A cover lid is the best thing about this. I can't tell you how many times I've had food come back at me with the old mixer. The lid is removeable so you can clean it. It is a little tough to get out. Same with the bowl (which is not fun when your hands are wet or doughy).
So far I have only used the paddle attachment, but can't wait to try the others out. It's about as quiet as the Sunbeam mixer I had.
I love the suction cups on the bottom to keep it in place.
It's a well built product and I hope it lasts me for years to come.

I wanted to wait until I had used it a bit before writing a review. Honestly I have nothing bad to say about it. I absolutely love it. The first thing I was concerned about after opening it was that I might pinch my finger in it while it's lifted up, but It's never fallen onto my finger. I will openly admit that despite having the spill guard flour still seems to make it's way out of the spout on it but it's okay I usually just cover it with my hand and it's only happened when making bread dough.

At this point I've used it for all sorts of things and I must say I'm really impressed and really happy. This stand mixer has helped open new doorways for me and expand my baking to new places. I've been making homemade breads and rolls now, which I'd not been great at before. This machine coupled with the dough hook helps that quite a bit. I've even learned how to make hamburger buns and soft delicious rolls.

This mixer holds up to the strain of bread dough really well which is what I was seeking. It was another users comment saying that it did so that talked me into this model in particular. I love the big size because I can make two loaves at once. Which is great for my family of 5. I love all the different parts it comes with making it easy to change what I need to make at any given time without needing different tools.

LOVE IT!!! I had been saving up for a stand mixer because I wanted something amazing in my kitchen. Amazon recommended this for me and after reading the reviews, I bought one. I was worried that I would "get what I paid for" since this mixer sells for less than half the amount of some popular ones. I definitely got my money's worth and more.

The moment I took it out of the box, I could tell it was well made. It's easy to use and it looks great on the counter. I've used it for cakes, breads, cookies, muffins and the occasional waffle. Clean up is quick too since the cover keeps the flour in the bowl.

I would recommend this to anyone who asks! I'm going to go bake something right now! Writing this review made me want some cookies.

Just put my first dough to proof, time for a first review. This review is based on my personal impression and experience, YMMV.

Unwrapping: The item arrived in an Amazon box. Inside the Amazon box was the product box. Inside the product box was another box of same size, just in plain without any printings. Inside the third Matroschka was the final product, along with the accessories and manual in plain sight. One attachment came mounted, the other ones wrapped in plastic.

Please note: the product registration is, according to the card, is required for the warranty and needs to be done on-line, not by returning a card.

Assembly: I like the way the mount works. It is like a bayonet. You put the attachment in, push it up and turn it in towards the closed lock symbol and release it. To remove an attachment, you push it up, turn it towards the open lock symbol, release it and pull it out. Very easy, no force required. As being spoiled by my previous mixer, it was not 100% intuitive to me. I like it better with this mixer.

First cleaning: I ran everything, bowl, attachments and splatter guard through the dishwasher. No indication that it was a mistake, like discoloration, stains, or twisted parts.

Mixing bread dough: 1500+ grams of flour (~3.5 lbs for less literate people) plus water and other ingredients went into the bowl to become bread. A little flour blew out between splatter guard and bowl. Really, just some dust, nothing severe. And it may be the result of my operation of filling the bowl completely and starting it then. I assume nothing would get out if you fill in the liquids first and add the flour to the running mixer through the opening in the splatter guard.

The motor is powerful enough to do the job. However, the tilt head is bending slightly while mixing the heavy dough. I don't know if that is ok or a sign of overload and eventually something breaks. Also, I think there may be an efficiency deficit. The motor is supposed to be rated at 650 Watts. I did not measure the electrical consumption, but I was not under the impression of twice the power of my previous mixer, rated at 350W. Towards the end of the mixing process I noted a hint of Magic Smoke (Magic Smoke is what makes electronics work. If it gets out, typically in a cloud, the electronic ceases to work). That might be ok for the first use, or also an indication of overload. I will certainly pay attention on this issue in the future. If it disappears over time, it was just because of running under load for the first time. I will see.

Noise: Wow, that one is quiet! At least compared to my old stand mixer and my hand mixers. I can even follow the podcast coming out of my cell phone's speaker while it is mixing.

Removing the bowl: I noticed it in other reviews. Some folks have problems removing the bowl from the base. That is true. It really sticks and I need both hands to turn it loose. Not a problem for me, but probably impossible for Twiggy. Maybe that is also an issue that goes away with use and wear.

Final thoughts: Talking about use and wear. The splatter guard just sticks on. No mechanical mount, just adhesion. It would be a surprise if that keeps sticking over the years I plan to use this mixer. Also, I bought insurance with the mixer. The few glitches I noticed may turn into problems. Investing some more Greenies make sure they do not turn into financial problems. I would recommend that additional spending for peace of mind. I put down US-$136.99 for the mixer and another US-$7.77 for insurance, totaling to US-$144,76. Overall I think, you get what you pay for and I consider it a adequate addition to my kitchen. It is not a Bosch, but it is worth the money! At least as of its first use.

I love this mixer. It does everything I want it to do. I'm looking forward to making holiday treats for my family. Mixing cookie dough is so easy. Even thick chocolate chip dough comes out great with no strain on the mixer motor. I like that the appliance motor is in the back, no worries about the motor sucking in flour or powdered sugar. I like that the appliance surface is rounded and smooth. No sharp edges or corners for raw ingredients to build up. Clean up is a snap with a quick wiped down over the curves.

The first time I used the mixer I noticed a small crack in the splash guard. I contacted Cheftronic support and was told they would ship another to me ASAP. I experienced great customer service. One thing though........the card that came with the mixer that has instructions to register the mixer for an extra year of warranty is inaccurate. The correct website is cheftronic.COM _not_ cheftronic.NET. Customer service helped me with that as well.

5 **** for a great product and great customer service.

eta on 12/18/17..........I did receive a new splash guard as promised.

This mixer is great, sturdy and easy to use. Handles cheesecake ( made 2 at one time ) whips up regular cakes in a hurry, and bread.. this mixer will do an 8 loaf batch of bread dough, however it does climb the beater and you dont want to have to dig that mess out of the spring assembly !!
Working with a 4 loaf batch of bread was perfect. (thats still 7 cups of flour and 2 cups wet ingredients) Still PLENTY big and the bread came out perfect !! Impressed with this mixer and glad i chose it, considering price and value, plus the mixer is sturdy. Super happy !!

This is a great standing mixer. I purchased this mixer about 2 weeks ago because I wanted to make some unleavened bread for my families gathering. I've been wanting a stand mixer for a long time;I was using a hand held mixer that I've had for many years before deciding to purchase this mixer, I was reviewing different brands and what helped me to make my decision was a you tube video about this mixer and I was sold. I think this mixer is just as good as one of the top popular brands that people like to buy; but for half the cost! This mixer has some very minor flaws: it moves a bit with the higher numbers, but that's why they provide good suction cups on the bottom to prevent movement and it's a little loud. I'm pretty sure that the top popular brands has some minor flaws as well. So give it a try! I would definitely recommend this excellent mixer! Thank you Cheftronic for making a great mixer. I will post photos soon.
