SUNSET Magazine

SUNSET Magazine

I’ve subscribed to Sunset Magazine off and on for decades. Is chock full of interesting travel ideas and yard/garden ideas I’d love to implement but it’s orientation toward warm climates and the impossibly expensive subjects for travel articles render the magazine barely relevant for me. Token attempt to regionalize based on subscriber’s address but not very effective.

This is a visual feast. I do read it on my Kindle but I have purchased the magazine for many many years. Well I am age 62 so do the math ya'll :) LOL -- full of beautiful photos, ideas for the home, and thoroughly enjoyable escape that is relaxing to sit back with a cup of tea and just say ahhhhhh

I grew up in the Bay Area, went to college and lived for 10 years in the Sonoma area, and now reside in Las Vegas. I can tell you from experience the when Sunset writes about any of the above mentioned places they usually hit it spot on what to do and where to go. I was in SF this last weekend and both where I went for my burrito in the Mission District and when I went to Brite Rite for ice cram had their clipping from Sunset on the wall. I went to these places because I knew they were the places to go not because I read about them in Sunset, but it goes to show you Sunset does not steer you wrong.

I have gone to several places mentioned in the magazine and was not disappointed. I would say that Sunset is best used as a travel guide. I also enjoy their food tips my wife and I typically try one receipe per month for the magazine. What I would like to see is more indepth articles that don't concern travel. I would also like to see a more extensive gardening section the few tips I get are nice but this section could be expanded

I was born and raised in CA and have read this magazine since I was young; I'm so glad I can now get a version applicable to AZ where I now live. This magazine has everything.....travel, food, gardening.....just a great magazine; that's why it's been around for so many years!

Love this magazine. There are very few magazines that are focused on the west. [NOT a specialty mag for ranches, n cabins, beach.] This one comes closest - states like Colorado, Utah, Oregon, Arizona are often featured in terms of places to go, decorating, food...so if you live in that 'western-middle USA', this is for you. I love other mags like Living and Better Homes and Gardens but often get frustrated because of their orientation to things in those climates (gardening, home decorating, house design). This magazine often feels like an extension of more local publications.

I love Sunset and was thrilled when I found it in a digital format. I’ve subscribed for years but there’s always the problem of what to do with it after you read it. No worries now!

I always look forward to receiving my Sunset. Just recently there's been more of a celebrity focus to the point of adding blips to acknowledge hair, make-up and clothes which is a bit irritating. But aside from that, I enjoy learning about places in my neck of the woods (the West) and always, always get ideas for what I can do in my own garden, house, entertaining etc.

I like Sunset for it great West Coast gardening, travel and do-it-yourself home improvement and food sections. But after a year or two, the articles become redundant. I usually subscribe for a period, then drop the subscription of a couple of years. However, it is the best publication I am aware of for plants and landscaping in California and the Western U.S. Most national publications (Horticulture, Organic Gardening, have an Eastern bias, in my experience).

Note: The first magazine to come with the subscription will usually be one that's already been on the stands for two or three weeks. If you've already purchased it, contact customer service -- they'll extend the subscription to compensate.

While many reviewers complain that the old days of Sunset magazine gardening tips are gone, I love the modern content. Since moving to Portland, I find that I love the travel guides that fuel my West Coast wanderlust.

Some of the articles are insightful and interesting. Others are light and easy to read. Very much enjoying this subscription so far. And with a deal for $5 per year, we're getting a great value too!
