I have a G10 and needed a second camera so I got this G20. Not much learning curve between them. I can still use my inventory of batteries and memory cards and the menu system is identical. Shooting in low light is so much better with this camera and the Manual/Cinema movie modes allow for more precise color controls (although I'm accustomed to altering hue and saturation in post production anyway).
Overall, it feels like nothing more than a firmware upgrade from the G10, but that's not necessarily a bad thing, especially considering it costs less than the G10 did. I'd rather shoot with this than a digital SLR any day. It's lighter, more easily held and controlled with one hand and the picture quality is fantastic!
I bought this instead of it's more expensive brothers. Bought it to use in a church. Works great because of the line in/mic in feature. Rather than buying the XA10 I bought this because I saved about $1,000 and i really only need the 1 line in. From the research the sensors are extremely similar if not the same thing. Video quality should be the same. With the right audio cable adapters, I'm able to go into the line in to get a direct audio source. Video quality is great. Camera can work for you as is right out of the box.
My wife loves making family movies and video editing on her computer. This was perfect for getting her great quality and long longer videos like here tape camcorder gave. She's very happy.
Camera has exceeded my expectations. Plenty of memory 32 gb internal plus two 32 gb memory cards. Bought two additional large capacity batteries. Highly recommend for others to purchase. Just added this camera to the other same camera I already have for my video studio
