My 8 & 11 year old girls recently started taking sewing lessons at school and they loved it! My younger one needs some help form me, though.
Daughter loves it
These were just adorable. These were packaged as two separate projects making life much easier with a hyper five year old. We were able to do treat this as two separate projects on different days. The Cute Cat and Dog Sewing Kit for kids is perfect for an Adult and child project as they need adult direction at five or six. However, I suppose an eight year old can do this individually. Each piece is already cut and the instructions are very easy to follow If you weren't comfortable with the sewing you could glue these pieces together. The stuffing is provided as well and it is divided so it is perfect for a young beginner. All that they need to do is assemble it. I made these with my five year old granddaughter and we did make them on two different days/ We made the cat first and we had so much fun. She had a tough time waiting on each step and doing them one at a time but she did do it all on the machine and had fun. She stuffed the cat and it sits on her dresser, because she is not allowed a pet cat. We did the dog on another day and she did more of it by herself this time. She was so proud of the finished product that she gave it to her mother as a gift. I will be purchasing more of these kits because they are great for learning and building confidence in sewing and oneself. Thank you for the fun that we had too.

I ordered this Cat & Dog sewing kit for my son (age 5) because he loves to work on crafts at home on rainy days. My son likes to imitate everything I do and has asked me several times in the past when I am sewing something if he can try it too. So when I saw this product I thought it would be absolutely perfect for him. When it arrived, we opened it together and we were thrilled with how adorable the patterns were. He was really excited to start right away. The directions are very basic with pictures to show step by step how to sew each animal. He was able to follow the directions with minimal guidance from me. The felt patterns have tiny holes that make it easy to sew along the lines. He is very proud of himself for being able to make his own stuffed animal. We aren't finished with both patterns yet but I'm sure this will be a craft he will want to work on every day until it's done. I would definitely recommend this product to others, it would be a great gift for any child age 5 and up. I will be buying more in the future.

This is an adorable little first sewing set. My 4 year old worked on this with her Grandma. The plastic needle included was too flimsy for the project, so we had to use one of my big yarn needles. The material is pretty scratchy as well. But for the price and the process, this was a great buy!
These are so cute! Mt four year old daughter is in love!! I am in love with something simple she can sew with me :)
Pros:
1) these are appropriate do it yourself art kits to do with your child. Our daughter is only four, so she is a little young basedon the recommendation of the manufacturer, but honestly she can do it if we work together and it is good bonding time for us an a mommy daughter pair.
2) good for teaching sewing skills! I love to sew and I think it is largely a dying art. So happy to teach my daughter. At the least I want her to be able to do some basic mending. This is an important life skill in my book!
3) good for developing motor skills. Thus really is awesome for fine motor skills.
4) pride of making it yourself. This is fun to see in a child!
Cons:
1) none, these are super cute and really come with everything you need to make them. Love this kit!!

This kit is very cute!!! Most all girls love to do crafts and learn to sew so this is perfect.
It does come with all the pieces needed. Though it does require supervision. The pieces are not labeled in any way. So my grand daughter couldn't figure out which pieces are to be sewn together and how.
The string we ran out of. Not because it didn't come with enough. But because it's all one piece. So with each section, she cut the string to the length we "thought" was needed". In the end. We made too many cuts and not enough to complete the project. If I would of supervised the cutting closer, this may not of been an issue.
The finished product is for younger children. Say 6-7 years old ideally.
It kept my 10 year old busy - but when she was finished - she didn't want to keep it. That's ok. This grandma did!! :)
I loved the kit just a couple small improvements would be nice. Some sort of easy label system. Sew A & A together. etc. And maybe more string or ?? Otherwise - a WIN!!
Rarely will you see a 5 out of 5 star rating as I can almost always find a small flaw or two to note lowering the rating. So even 4 out of 5 stars is a GOOD product! Everyone needs to read through the entire review & not rely solely on "stars", to see how it will fit your own particular needs.

Perfect for Beginners! I bought this for my oldest boy to try because he's showing an interest in learning to sew. I wanted something that he could make that would make a cute gift for one of his aunts or one of his grandma's.
This kit includes everything you need to make your own cat and dog. It comes with the felt cut-outs, thread, stuffing, and a plastic needle.
The directions come in nice large easy to read and follow steps. This one has nine steps. There are colorful visuals within each boxed step that greatly aid in the process.
The felt pieces have tiny holes that mark where the needle and thread needs to go through. This is an excellent assistance for a beginners. The felt used to make the base, top and sides of the jewelry box are thick and sturdy. It is very stiff, which allows it to keep its shape.

This is a pretty cool set and a fun project that I wanted to go with my nieces. I have to say, I was more than excited to receive this kit and have a fun afternoon with two of my favorite little girls. My nieces are 5 and 10. As you can see each stuffed animal came with its own bag of stuffing and had all the pieces folded together in its own separate bag. The cat and dog sewing patterns kind of remind me of a build-a-bear that you make at home... now I have never personally even been in the build-a-bear store but my nieces ove those things! When I opened up each of the bags with the separate patterns, the cloth pieces were folded and not as neat as I would have liked. But don't worry, if your set comes like this just press a iron on it for a quite second and voila... flat again! I personally didn't find the instructions to be as easy as I would have liked, my 5 year old niece definitely couldn't figure them out on her own. But to my surprise, after a bit of discussion and cooperation my 10 year old niece was able to complete her pattern and help her sister with her cat pattern. I only gave this 4 stars because I wouldn't be able to give it to a 5 year old and have them complete it on their own. However, since the patterned pieces do come precut it puts me at ease that I don't have to give scissors to the girls to use to cut out and would ultimately be extremely too hard for a 5 year old. It would also be easier I think if each pattern did not come with precut pieces of yarn to sew with because it is much more challenging for a 5 year old than a 10 year old.. I think it would be better if I came with one long piece! I also don't think I would pay more than $7-$8 for this sewing kit. I would however recommend this sewing kit if you are looking to have an afternoon with your little's and away from the TV and tablets they are so hooked into these days!
