All my married life (55 years) I've been wishing for one of these but knew it was one of those things from my past I'd never have. Suddenly, there it was on Amazon in two sizes while I was looking at an iron Dutch oven ((I purchased the larger one). I was raised on a dairy farm, and chainmail was used in the creamery for washing milk bottles back when the job was done by hand--drop it in, swish it around with the bottle half full of hot soapy water, and it worked better than any bottle brush. There was always one in the kitchen for washing anything, especially those things too small to get a hand into--mostly bottles and canning jars and the teapot. Since I have had it less than a month, I honestly have not had to try it on any of my iron cookware, but I know it works well on stainless steel pots and pans. My iron skillets and kettles are so well-seasoned I don't expect to ever have to use it to clean any of them, but I can recommend it for all of the above cleaning jobs and have no reason to doubt that it works well at restoring cast iron.
Do I love washing dishes and scrubbing kettles. Of course,not, silly! But I do love having chainmail once again to help take the drudgery out of doing it, and every time I pick it up to use--or even see it waiting there, a flood of pleasant memories comes back to me. Before, I used a plastic scrubber which became encrusted with grease and black from the iron. This tool works perfectly and doesn't wipe off the seasoned surface. It is easy to clean after each use. I highly recommend it for anyone who uses cast iron cookware.

This little gadget is one of the best things I have ever purchased, I just bought a grill with cast iron grates I thought this was going to be a nightmare, I used this gadget on my grastes after I had cooked hamburgers and the grates stayed in cleaned for several days until I received this in the mail I brought my dirty grates to the kitchen and with just warm water and this handy gadget it tore through all the crusty burnt on stuff like magic it was so easy to use ,no effort on me at all. When I rinsed the grates off they were just like new not scratched up they were smooth and still had the protective oil on them from where I rubbed them down real good before I cooked on them. Another thing I cooked Brunswick stew in my huge 18qt pot I was lazy and put it into my dishwasher(which I hate and hardly ever use). Thinking it would would clean the bits off the bottom and my pot would come out sparkly clean to my disappointment it was not clean but not hard and stuck to the bottom ugh I reached for the SOS pad it did nothing yeah really nothing... but I thought why not try my new gadget on the stainless steel wow with warm water and a dab of dawn it took that baked on mess right off and no harm to my pot and shiny never will I buy another box of SOS pads. A must have for every kitchen.
I always wondered how to properly clean my cast iron skillet and have been using nylon brushes. My griswold and wagner pans love a nice water swish with this chain mail and then a quick dry and finish with olive oil...Ready for more active duty. I never even use my bloody all clad anymore!Enjoy!

These are wonderful. Best clean my cast iron pans have ever had and I was amazed at how easy it was. I bought one for my sister as a gift. Scrubb your cast iron pans clean with this, dry the pans and treat with oil. (I prefer using "Caron & Doucet - Cast Iron Oil & Cast Iron Conditioner" after I've scrubbed my pans clean.) The pans improve with every use. Best of all cleaning the chainmail is easy too. Use a drop of soap in a dish rag or sponge with it then rub into a lather between your hands; rinse very well and hang to dry, Your done! My only regret is it wasn't made in the USA.
Love vintage as well as new cast iron skillets and some needed work! Well this cast iron cleaner did the trick by running warm water on skillets while scouring with the cleaner. Dried them on hot stove top then oiled them before storing. You can also oil and put in 350 degree oven for 1 hr. in order to season the your cast iron. I recommend this item to keep your cast iron non-stick!
I didn't realize for the longest time that there was a product that would make cleaning my cast iron so much easier! I use cast iron mainly to cook scrambled eggs and for the iron (since I don't eat red meat). This cleaner has made it so much easier to clean up after every morning. As soon as the eggs leave the pan, I scrub it under cold water with the cast iron cleaner. When that's done, I dry it with a towel and put it back on the hot burner to make sure all the water evaporates. A new coating of oil, and you're done. Couldn't be easier!
