From someone who hates sleeping on air pads, this is a great compromise! The foam makes this pad nice and firm. At no point during the night did I feel like I was sinking. It wasn't noisy, as some of these air pads are when you move around a lot at night (like I do). Because it is a self-inflating pad, the air fills in the little gaps where the foam does not. Making it lighter in weight and smaller to pack down than most foam pads. It inflates pretty quickly, in about 20 mins and then you can give it just two or three breaths to finish it off. The only small con about this pad is that it is still about 20 inches long when packed down. Which really is not that big of a deal at all, you can easily strap it to the outside of your backpack no problem!
My husband and I enjoy these. We add an additional thin mat underneath just for added cushion. You can definitely find ones that add more cushion, but our biggest quality we desire is to not feel rocks underneath us, and this one fits the bill. It is lightweight and easy to bring, and the feature to blow it up is easy too. It's also easy to roll back up and put away when you're done. There may be softer ones out there, but this one is highly functional, especially for those hiking out to a spot and carrying this along. I'd recommend it! :)
It's no Tempur-Pedic, but it's definitely better than sleeping on one of those roll-up foam mats! This comes with a carry sack and a repair patch just in case you get a tear/hole. This is a well made product - very sturdy material and the valve seems like it will continue to do its job. I have slept on this mat four times... one night on my bedroom floor to test it out, and three nights during a backpacking trip into the Kentucky wilderness. I did line the floor of my tent with a blanket before I put the mat down... I wanted to protect the material from any sharp rocks or sticks.
After doing much research I came upon this Fox lightweight sleeping pad. After years and years of motorcycle touring, hundreds of nights of camping, I decided I needed to get with the times and pick up a memory foam pad.
I am not disappointed! This pad is so comfortable, it is hard to believe that you're not sleeping in your own bed!
When rolled up, it is about the same size as a conventional foam pad, slightly heavier, but far comfier.
It might not be ideal for light weight backpacking, but motorcycle touring, bicycle touring or car camping, look no further!
These are fantastic! We have used them in our Cabin Creek Big Birtha double sleeping bag and they fit perfect! They are very convienient for every sleeping situation. We even use them to sleep at other peoples houses while traveling. We have a huge luxury air mattress and we choose over that!
They are compact for backpacking and camping. They stay warm so you don't feel the cold air under you or the cold ground. They stay inflated. They stay dry. They inflate in a short amount of time.

I have been borrowing friends sleeping pads to go camping/backpacking for a while, as my old one is quite large and heavy. I finally decided to get my own, and for the price and quality this is a great sleeping pad.
On it's inaugural trip it didn't fully self-inflate (and I gave it plenty of time to do so), but it did get mostly inflated and just required a little blowing to fill it up. Once inflated it was incredibly comfortable and stayed inflated all night. It also proved to be fairly water resistant. Under a cloudless, starry sky I decided to set my tent up sans-fly and go to sleep. However, luck being what it is, I woke up in the middle night to the gentle sound and feeling of rain inside my tent. I quickly put the fly on, but the damage was done and quite a bit of water was pooled on the floor of the tent. In the morning when I went to pack up my tent and sleeping bag were pretty damp, but the pad was not really. Despite sitting on a soaked floor all night it remained pretty much dry and didn't require too much airing out to be fully dry.
Love this, used it several times and it's been great. Compacts down about to the size of a fire extinguisher, and then self inflates enough to be very comfy on even rocky ground. Seems durable enough to last a while, and the nozzle is brass. I'd get the larger size if you're over 5'9 or so.
Great pads and durable - only reason for 4 star was one of three pads had handle on storage sack sewn on inside instead of outside but amazon is replacing ( handle is how pad is secured to backpack ). Utilized these pads (3) on 10 day backpacking trip in NM with my sons. They are lightweight, durable, self inflating and performed well in rugged environment. If they hold up for couple of years of backpacking camping will get 5 stars - Good Job Fox Outfitters.
Excellent self-inflating air pad for camping. We have used two of them three times so far and are completely satisfied with this purchase. They do in fact self inflat but, to get them fulling inflated you do need to blow into the nozzle about four times for it to become fully firm. I read many reviews of the top products out there and made the right choice. They come with a stuff sack and they easily deflat and go back into the sack. I have not used them for backpacking but they are super light and could be carried long distances with no problem.
My boyfriend and I go backpacking and camping all the time. We’ve had these for 3 or more years now and they still work like new! No holes! Provide great cushion!! And lightweight!! Will definitely buy again whenever we need to replace ours.
