I am in awe of this voracious creature's ability to inhale. I brought it into my home, and it immediately began drawing a single, mighty breath. My other animals were startled and jealous of its ability. They barked loudly, trying to seem more important. To this day, it has yet to exhale, even a little. It gathers all manner of debris within its shiny belly. I pull off its head and pour its stomach contents into my waste bin on the regular, in an effort to show my other animals who is in charge, just so they all know. TRIUMPHANT EXPERIENCE! FIVE STARS!
We were using our older shop vaccum (with a different set of hose/tubes vs shop/construction use) in the house because of it's versatility, power, and tank design. Our upright Oreck, which was almost new when passed down to us, hardly came out of the closet as it couldn't tackle the nooks and crannies in an old house nor the staircase..and it didn't work well on the large area rugs for some reason. In looking to purchase a dedicated tank machine just for the home, we came VERY close to getting a European made Soniclean which is quite pricey itself. In order to save $, we had the simple idea of just getting another shop vac to use for the house. ENTER THIS SHOP-VAC which we have been very pleased with for the home with the various attachments we had already purchased. I would have given it a "5 star" rating except for two issues: 1) the snap-on curved attachment bar is very flimsy, sometimes just pops off, and is nothing like the sturdy one on our older shop vac of the same capacity. 2) as with the older one, if you wrap the cord around the attachment holder then add some attachments in the slots, you can't easily take off the cord without removing all of the attachments. To handle the latter issue, I just simply wrap the cord neatly and tuck it under the handle of the vacuum. (That works OK except we try to keep a short, heavy duty extension cord with the vacuum, and they both won't tuck under the handle. OTHERWISE, this little machine glides around easily on carpet or hardwoods (keep the wheels clean though to prevent scratching), helps us get up all of the dog hair, leaves, dust in an old house from vents to 12' ceiling corners, and saved us a lot of money from a fancy machine that really wouldn't do much more! Using the high filtration bags, we are very happy with it as a home vacuum!
The vacuum works great. So far it picked up everything I asked it to pick up. The blower function also works quite well, especially on dry leaves and spider webs. The easy-rolling casters make the vac "follow" you wherever you go. Our garage is super clean now :)
I had to take one star off for the ridiculously short power cord. I think ShopVac folks should not have cut corners on something this important. It impacts the convenience and functionality too much.
Pros: portability, good suction power, good capacity, lower than expected motor noise, easy-rolling casters, that carrying handle on top is just right
Cons: short power cord, storage locations for accessories are not thought out well, air hose occassionally pops out of the vac, especially in the blower mode
This product is excellent for what I purchased it for; sucking up sawdust generated from power tools during use. After reading a few negative reviews and viewing a very negative review on You Tube, I decided to go with my gut instinct and make the purchase. Not sorry at all and, completely happy. It has strong suction and the top is not loose during use. It's only loose when it is not running. When used as a floor vacuum, it performs exceptionally well. The large exhaust port does interfere with the tool holder but, because it has no impact on the product operation, it really doesn't bother me. The HEPA dust bag is great for keeping sawdust from escaping from the collection tank and getting into the air in my shop. I would recommend this product to anyone with similar use.
Very strong suction! Does what I need it to do - pick up cat litter and other debris that my household vac didn't work on.
I have to say I didn't appreciate having to install the side handles myself. The hardware for those is too shallow to get a good grip on with a slot screwdriver - and the force required to turn the screws was pretty much. I ended up gripping the heads of the screws with a narrow jaw visegrips and twisting them in that way. The handles need to be installed with the screws all the way tight because it will influence the vacuum strength. At first I put the hose on the wrong place...... the outflow. LOL.... I caught on quick and put it where it belongs - the red port at the front, where the big logo is. Then, it really sucked. The right way. Very strong....... it pulled the carpet right up. Be aware that you may want to use the right tool for this vac. It would be nice to have a brush tool, but it did not come with one. The hose is nice and long, and seems flexible enough to be versatile. Getting all those dust bunnies that have been lurking under the bed will be good!
I did install the one bag that was included. The black foam filter isn't necessary unless you are using a wrap around fabric filter.
The manual has instructions for a few different vacs..... which was rather confusing. The wheels on this vac ( 4.5 gal ) just snap in.
You have to press until they click in. I too note that the tool rack is in a bad spot where only the outer slots are useful.
The vac is not horribly loud, which is nice for something with this much power. I like it - and if I have any issues with it, I will update my review!

I bought this sprecifically to deal with a dog hair issue and it is working great.
Vacuum seems sturdy with great suction. I hae vacuumed my whole house now 3 times nad just got done vacuuming my 2 dogs with a pet vroomer and it still has lots of suction power.
Here is the review I wrote for the pet grooming since it is the real reason for me buying this.
I love this thing! I have 3 dogs. A 103 lb. Great Pyrenees (20 lbs hair), a minuture Australian Shepard (50% hair) and Terrier mix (he has short course hair. Yes I think I am crazy too and all of the hair bout had me in a straight jacket. I attached this to a ShopVac I also bought on Amazon and I sucked the loose hair off my two fluffy dogs like a girlfriend in heat! I have been trying everything to find a solution to all of this hair problem and I have finally done it. The shedding comb pulled out all of the extra hair time after time. Once the comb gets full you push a button that turns the teeth toward the hose and the vacuum sucks ti right in. The upholstery comb worked so much better that the original vacuum tool because it has plastic nubs with open sections between the nubs, that grab the hair but the vacuum suction doesn't cause it to "stick" to the cushions. I am truly giddy with how well this works. I also suggest the Shop Vac too because with this tool and the ShopVac I spent $80. My son spent $2500 on a Rainbow and my setup works just as well and I can use this tool to actually comb the hair away before it gets on the floors now.
PS with the below ShopVac I did not have to use the hose or adapter that came with this groomer kit so it had a great seal and stayed on.

If I could add an additional star to this review, I would. I have used this shopvac for just about everything, including non vacuuming projects. Yeah, the component holder tbat many have given only 4 stars for is annoying, but fact they put one on in the first place, and that when you put the components in the right slots hold them without any issues, and that everything works above my standards, they get 5 stars. But lo and behold, I discovered another use that has come in so handy, there absolutely needs to be a 6th star!!!!
Why rate a vacuum higher than normal standard? Because I found a MUCH better use that is so satisfying, it turned an annoying chore, into a satisfying game, where the little buggers score is 0, and my score about 233 as of this writing! Oops, make that now 235! Never knew a shop vac could be so satisfying! And no, I dont mean Scary Movie satisfying either. Im talking annoying house flies!!! Discovered the one thing they cant avoid!!!!
So how well does this shop vac kill/catch flies? Let me tell you, with the heat wave we had the past few days, and work getting done on old sewer lines has caused a lot more flies to be around as it is. On top of that, my kids AC just died so ordering a new one. In the mean time, kept windows open with a fan to circulate the air, and one of the screens got torn due to one of our cats. On top of that its my kids birthdays. One right after the other. So took them out to celibrate and totaly forgot to close the window. When we got home, my daughter pointed at the ceiling. When I looked up, my eyes widened in horror! Hundreds of dots littered the ceiling, and a few flew by my face where there was light. I have never seen so many flies in one place. We each grabbed an electronic fly swatter, which sadly, Amazon no longer sells this model, and started swinging at ones airborn, and at ceiling to get them moving so they could be zapped as well. There was so many, the coils started burning and melting! On top of that, I noticed an open box of cerial my kids left out fallen over with the contents on the floor in hard to reach places. I then get the shop vac and go to use it to get all the cerial cleaned up. As Im vacuuming up the cerial, a few flies go buzzing by my head so point the hose with adapter on it near me where the little huggers are, and see them get pulled in. I get an idea, and put the 3 hose extenders on, with the attachment for corners, then raise it by each of the dots on the ceing. I knew I might get only a few, and that many more will just fly away, but to my surprise, that didn't happen!! Not sure why, but it was as if they couldnt see the vacuum hose comming. Moment the head of the vacuum came within 3 inches of a fly, it got sucked in!!!! And because of the filter and disposable vacuum bag, they went jn, but not out. Most of the flies didn't move until it was to late and got sucked in. Its the few that took off that made me extremely happy with the vacuums capabilities. If the vacuum head was withing 4 inches of a fly when it took off, the fly did not get away!!!! Moment it took off, it was a gonner and sucked right in!!! Within an hour, our home was completely free of flies. I actually took a tally as each one went in. What was even stranger, was listening to my two children bicker over who got to vacuum next. Trying to get my kids to help with vacuuming, is like having a tooth pulled. They normally bicker on whose turn it is just to avoid the chore. This time they both wanted to get in on the fly removal so was totaly different. What was even more shocking was the fact they had been anxious to get home to play the new video game I bought them for their birthday that they have wanted for a year now, and chose the fly cleanup instead! Heck, I even asked them if they were my kids, or alien clones lol. My son told me to leave the window open again to let more flies in. I said noooooo! But Id be lying if I said I wasn't thinking the same thing. During breaks, I put a plastic bag over the bose with two rubberbands, then took the shop vac out side and threw the bag out so if any escaped, least not in my house. Best part, was clean and no mess, no cooked fly smell as you get when using a electric fly swatter.
Read lots of reviews after I purchased. Thought was gonna be disappointed, but was fine. The connection for bag is a bit wimpy, compared to my 15 gallon shopvav, but its a lighter weight model,so guess it's expected. Pretty quiet compared to other comments. Expected a freight train. Plenty of suction for small vac. The other reviews talked about lid slop,,,seems fine to me. It does rotate, unlike most plastic tubs but it doesn't fall off like in one video. If you abuse anything, it won't pass muster. I would recommend it. Do wish cord was ten or twelve ft,, but that's ok. Works fine for small to mid jobs. You can buy the larger hoses and vac larger debris. As far as hose connection, I've had vacs with the friction grab before,,no big deal. Over time will get better grab.
This one replaced my 35-year-old Jet Vac for use in my woodworking shop. I have to say up front that this unit works very well and I wold recommend it. Now for the downside stuff. Yes, I found the AC cord to be way, way too short, But I had replaced my cord on my original vac with a 25 foot one years ago. So right now, an extension cord will need to do. Another improvement Shop Vac could make is in their instruction manual. They have tried to cram all the instructions for all the vacs into one manual in several different languages and consequently do a poor job of direction--in English, anyway. And I was somewhat disappointed that it did not come with the cloth cover for the rigid filter because it came with everything else. And nowhere did they mention assembling the handles on either side of the canister. Of course, I was able to figure that out. You have two handles, four screws and four holes in the side of the can. :) Overall, the item is great, it's just the details that are missing.
I got this to keep my garage tidy. This is a NICE little shop vac! It has every tool imaginable. Its a vacuum and it is also easily converted to a blower. There are 3 longer attachments that can be stacked, one on top of another, so I could even vacuum cobwebs off of the ceiling w/out needing a step stool!!! Set up was easy as was setting up the dust collection filter and bag. The wheels just pop and lock in and they roll great. When you are finished cleaning this little vac holds all of its own equipment. I couldn't be happier with my purchase!
