I purchased this for my mom who is now quadriplegic and but with some use in her hands. We really like this stuff and my daughter loves playing with it with grandma, but it's definitely a lot harder than I thought it'd be. Even the x-soft is pretty hard. Wish the x-soft was at least softer since my mom has very limited grip in her right hand and needs something softer. We got rid of the firm and replaced it with playdoh to give her a softer consistency. The other stuff is more like pulling taffy. All in all, however, it's contributing to her improved strength. Her p/t folks printed off a huge list of exercises that can be done with therapy putty that is really great. I recommend googling therapy putty exercises if you don't have a p/t who can print them off for you.
I am a horrible fidgeter; whether my fingers are bored, nervous, or stressed, I always have to have something in them. If I don't, I'll pick at skin on my fingers, neck, and lips, and also any scabs. This putty has been a godsend for me, and completely stops any urges to eat while watching something, just to keep my hands busy.
Pros:
- No/very light smell
- Unless you are really sweaty, it won't get gummy and start sticking to you
- 4 tub variety helps you find the strength you like
- Each tub has a generous amount of putty
- Unlike stress balls, putty is very versatile, so there are plenty of different ways you can create with it
Cons:
- For therapy use, these start out pretty hard, and will all get pretty soft, so not sure how beneficial they are in that regard (great for fidgeting though)
- The strengths are all pretty similar. The extra soft and soft are basically the same after being made pliable, the medium is slightly firmer, and the firm is definitely much firmer than the rest, but once you meld it, it will also become soft. The firm is my favorite, since it becomes soft, but still has a little resistance.
Overall, for someone who subconsciously picks skin, this putty feels similar to skin, so it's an awesome substitute! I gave my sister, who has the same issue, one of the four tubs, and she said that it's a game-changer for her.
I first tried Therapy Putty in a Nursing home and I liked it. So I ordered it and I, now along side of my grand kids play with my own "Play Doh"!
My fingers feel tired but I know they are getting a workout they never expected. This is very helpful for someone who has problems
opening jars, bottles and pill bottles. My arms are getting a workout too! Since this helps the tendons in grabbing and pulling..
I should have paid more attention to my parents complaining of their lack of strength in their later years! I'm happy in knowing that I won't
be complaining about this much later!
I originally bought this for my 6 year old son who has ADHD. His teacher recommended getting putty and since this had everything from firm to very soft I went with this one. Well... I also have ADHD and I once I tried it out I didn’t put it down. I pulled off a small ball and carry it with me everywhere. It’s very therapeutic.
I got this putty to strengthen my hand after a nerve injury. My occupational therapist AND my personal trainer both recommended it. The OT had me put a few marbles in it to work them around as well. I'm still on the Yellow putty- extra soft- and feel that it really exercises my hand. It is not greasy and does not fall apart like clay or silly putty. The plastic bins are the perfect storage for each ball of putty. I'm looking forward to working up to the next 3 stages - red, green and blue. It's perfect to use while watching TV, reading or resting.

This is a great set of 4 hand therapy putties. I am recovering from a broken arm/wrist and started with the yellow (extra soft). I am transitioning to the red (soft) now as my hand is getting stronger. The texture is smooth and comfortable and feels soothing to my distressed hand. It never sticks to anything and doesn't attract dirt or dust. When I accidentally leave it out, it is easily pulled up from whatever surface I have left it on. This was a great value for the money. I'm thankful for such a wonderful therapy product.
Using this putty at home to supplement my physical therapy for Tennis elbow (funny I don't even play tennis). It's great that it comes with the different strengths and are well packaged. Hoping they will work to get my elbow back in good working form.
It is nice to have a variety so you can start with the easy and work up. I play with it on my lunch break and can really feel it in my hands and fingers which is what I am trying to work on. I am working on grip strength. Comes in a nice container to keep them from drying out and it's just the right size for me to manage in my hands.
I have arthritis, and bought this because I used to love this stuff when I went to OT. It is fun to play with and gives your hands a workout.
The putty is very good quality, and worked great for me, except the "Firm" putty which was so hard that i could barely move it with my hands. The other three worked very well for me, and depending on what kind of mood i was in, i would switch between them. If you don't mind having a small thing a putty that you don't use, then this is a good purchase for a good price.
