We bought this to make a Halloween costume for my daughter. I was very skeptical, because I remembered the process being very different when I made tie-dyed shirts as a kid. But this worked very well. The colors were bright and true, and, the effect was great. You will have a lot of dye left over, and the instructions note that it does lose potency after a few days. So, to avoid wasting product, it's best to buy this if you have several items to dye.
Kids age 5-10 liked tie-dying with Tulip kit so much 1st time that we bought a 2nd. 2nd time around it was just as much fun. Found if you run short of dye you can add more water. Color is a little less dark, but shirts looked just as good.
I was at first worried about the size of the bottles being very small. I mixed the dyes in a bigger bottle then poured the dye in the small bottles to apply it to the fabric. I dyed 5 different pieces of fabric each being bigger that a square yard and there is still dye left. The blue is very concentrated it can take more water than the lime green, also the purple/ lavender takes more water than the lime green. I love the results.
It's messy but so much fun. Will definitely buy another kit!
The colors are nice, they're just not as sharp and vivid as what you get from the kits that come with soda ash. My 4 year old loves his shirt!

We soaked in ash first. Not needed. Easy to use and made 2 kids, 2 adult and had leftover that did not use. Colors are vibrant and still holding strong 4 months after.
