Pro Bike Tool Mini Road Bike Pump for Mountain and BMX Bicycle Tires , 7.3-Inches , Red

As background, I build bicycles and own several bike pumps. For portable pumps, I own an older model Zefal frame pump and a Topeak Road Morph G Mini. I will be comparing this Pro Bike Tool pump with my older pumps.

The Pro Bike Tool pump is quite handsome, made with machined aluminum and textured for better grip. As the name of the product suggests, the pump is indeed "super compact." It measures under 7.5in in length and is less than 1in in diameter at its widest point. For weight weenies who are concerned about the total weight of their biking equipment, this weighs ~101g (~3.6oz) pump alone and 118g (4.2oz) with the mounting bracket. The pump has two rubber caps to keep dust out. Uncapping the top reveals the flexible hose, which was tucked tidily away within the body of the pump. This hose is rather unique, supporting Schrader valves on one end and Presta valves on the other. The hose screws onto bottom of the pump and the o-rings ensures an airtight seal. The other end of the hose then screws onto the bike tube valve. Due to its small size, each pump does not move a lot of air. It will take upwards of 40 pumps to get a usable volume and pressure into a road tire. This should be expected for the size of the pump and is not a fault of the pump. The pump operation is smooth, but attaining high pressures is difficult.

Pros:
- Pump utilizes a flexible hose, which is very important. When pumping, you are bound to push back and forth, no matter how well you try to brace the pump. This movement causes strain on the tube near the valve, possibly causing tube failure. My older Zefal did not have a hose and I lost a few tubes as a result of using that pump. As a result, I got my Topeak pump that also has a hose.
- The screw on valve design works very well on both Schrader and Presta valves. Screwing on the valve takes a bit more time, but you get an airtight seal every time. There is also less air loss when engaging the valve.
- Very compact. It's the smallest pump I have come across, which makes it a great component for an emergency patch kit.
- Lifetime warranty against manufacturer defects

Cons:
- It claims to reach 120psi. While it may be possible to reach this value in theory, in practice, it is very difficult to go above 80psi. The design of the pump requires you to hold the pump with both hands - one hand on the handle, one hand on the body - then squeeze your hands toward each other. Perhaps I'm just weak, but by 80psi, this becomes near impossible. Unlike a floor pump, you can't use your weight and gravity to assist you. The Topeak Road Morph gets around this problem by essentially designing a mini floor pump and can reach 100psi much more easily.
- The mounting bracket has holes spaced perfectly to screw in place of a water bottle cage. However, due to the bracket design, the pump ends up lateral (left or right) to your frame instead inline in the frame triangle (see photo). This seems intentional, to keep the pump to the side of the water bottle cage. On my frame, it prevents me from mounting it upright on seat tube because it will get in the way of the front derailleur. It can be mounted on the down tube, but depending on your bike, it can come very close to the crank rings or crank arms. Also, some older steel frame bikes do not have mounting holes, making the mounting bracket unusable. A better solution may be a rubberized bracket fastened by zip ties.

If you buy this pump with appropriate expectations in mind, this pump may serve your purposes. For example, if you ride a road bike at over 100psi and was hoping to have a portable pump to keep you topped up, then this is not for you. However, if you need a portable pump for low pressure tires or need an emergency pump for on-the-road patching, this would be ideal.

In summary, this pump features a clever flexible hose design with secure, airtight seals. If your priority is ultra portability, then this is ideal. But if you are hoping to reach high pressures on a portable pump, then this is not what you need.

Of note, I received this item at a discount in exchange for my honest, unbiased feedback.

I looked at a number of pumps to install on my new XC bike and finally decided on this one. Best decision I've made this year. (Well, the decision to retire was pretty good, too, but this one is certainly a close second.)
The pump is really a heavy-duty unit but without excessive mass. The machined aluminum outer tubes give you a definite feel of strength and durability. NEVER buy a pump that doesn't have a flex hose, and this one has a clever hose which accommodates both common styles of valve stems. The hose stores securely inside the pump, and there are very durable dust plugs on each end to keep dirt and grime out.
Based on the descriptions and reviews of other pumps the stroke volumes are usually pretty low. I was really surprised and delighted when I tried out the Mini pump...it seemed to kick up the pressure in my MTB tires by a pound every 10-15 strokes, which is comparatively very good. Again, while pumping the unit gives you a clear feeling that it is well made, stable, and durable.
The bracket is a heavy plastic that fits perfectly on standard braze-on points. The bracket has two clamp points, one made to fit the upper tube and the other to fit the smaller lower tube. Be sure to mount the bracket with the larger tube up. Once the pump is snapped into the bracket it is really secure, and the velcro cinch strap ensures that it will stay that way. I have put the bike with pump installed through some pretty rough trail conditions and it hasn't budged one bit. No rattles or other sounds...you'll never know it's there.
In short, I am impressed with the quality and function of this item, and would recommend this to anyone that doesn't want to walk back to the truck after a flat tire.

I researched these mini pumps for quite a while, and ended up buying this based on the features. After receiving it and checking it out, I'm pleased with the quality as well.

The pump is a nice compact size and doesn't look too big even on my older mountain bike. The mounting system is very secure. The hose hidden in the handle is pretty slick, and all the fittings have nice threading. I would not want to try and use one of these small pumps without a hose, as it would be terribly difficult to hold the pump still enough on the valve stem while pumping. Having both schrader and presta valve ends is perfect if you have different kinds of bikes.

As far as function goes, it took about 120 pumps to get my 26x2.1 tires up to 25 psi. Really not bad considering it's small size, and light weight. It's easy to use and for emergency trailside repairs it should fit the bill perfectly. The quality seems top notch for the price, hopefully I'll get a long life out of it.

Love this handy little bike pump so much I bought a second one so I have one for each bike. It's great b/c it works on both presta and schrader valvles, is compact and easy to carry in pocket or mounted on bike. And it's not too bad pumping up road bike tires either, given it's small size. I can't get it quite as firm as with a foot pump, but that is to be expected. And way easier to manage than CO2 cartridges, which always seem to just fizzle away on me.

PS...you do have to read the instructions, as it's not obvoius how to use it, but very simple once you know!

Mini Road Bike Pump by PRO BIKE TOOL is a compact, light weight, and STYLIST pump! It comes with a holding bracket+velcro strap which can be mounted on bike frame next to the water bottle cage. However, I have this mini pump sits perfectly lengthwise in my 45 cubic inch saddle bag.
For its size 7.3" long, the handle can be extended away only about 5" from the pump body. This means it needs a lot actions of pulling and pushing to fill a road bike wheel 700 X 23 X 100psi, it's doable but NOT EASY. Also, the locomotion going on inside the pump generates the heat at the pump body barrel, if you're wearing gloves while pumping it'll be fine.
Overall, MRBP by PRO BIKE TOOL is a WELL MADE pump, but how long it's going to last only time will tell. Highly recommend this product to all cyclists or any one who loves to ride.

I love this little pump. It comes with a bracket that allows you to mount it under your bottle cage utilizing the existing bolts. Mine didn't come with bolts, but the ones that my bottle cage were mounted with were of sufficient length to accommodate both bottle cage and pump bracket. It fits nice and snug and I still have plenty of room for my left foot to sweep past it while I petal. I recently started running lower tire pressures: 70-80 psi., so in the advent that I need to use this pump in a roadside emergency, I am confident that it will perform well.

As a product, I would give the pump 4 stars. It works well, albeit with the drawbacks of any small pump. Namely, it takes a good amount of time to pump a road tire up, and at higher pressures it takes a good deal of effort to bring the tire up to ridable pressure especially on a larger 25mm wide or above road tire. In this respect the Lezyne pressure drive and road drive work a bit better.

I gave the product five stars because of Pro's customer service. They stand behind their products and they back it up with quick and professional customer service. Most products these days work pretty well. However, this company stands out for their proactive CS. I'll be buying more from them soon.

This little pump gets it done. Comes complete with mounting bracket. Easily installed using the same mounting holes as my water bottle cage. It sits off to the lest of the cage and doesn't interfere with anything. Easy installation and interference free mounting would mean nothing if it doesn't work and work it does. Takes less than a hundred pumps on a 700x35c tire and the flexible line is a real plus. Don't be they guy/girl stuck on the side of the road with a flat. Be prepared and carry a compact pump like this one. BTW-The ProBike tool folks sent very helpful information about how to use the pump. Nice.

Perfect for strollers. Originally purchased a traditional bike pump for the Bob stroller but the head was too large to clear the wheel spokes. Instead went with this and it works perfectly. The flexible tubing of the infaltor makes it easy to maneuver through the small spoke openings. I imagine this would be difficult to use for a normal bike tire (would take quite a bit of time to inflate a full size bike tire), but given the portable size what would one expect. At any rate, definitely recommend for baby strollers.

I bought 2 pumps. This one and the URG UPHP.

Pros: Solid build in comparison to the URG UPHP. I can see they put some time into designing this pump. For example, the pump handle does not rub/hit the pump section (URG UPHP does). Size is great for folks thinking of essentials in small packaging. Feels reliable.

Cons but not really: Gets hot getting closer to the high psi on a presta valve. Wish it were a tad longer for more grip, pump volume. Wish the screw portions were free moving like the URG UPHP. Hose to be just a tad longer to allow more space to pump away from the spokes. Basically, if it were the size of the URG UPHP, this would be an amazing pump!
