Knitter's Pride KP110604 Karbonz Double Pointed Needles Socks Kit

These are my first DPNs, so I have nothing to compare to, but overall I really like these. I have not had any problems with needles sliding out of the stitches, but the stitches also move smoothly across the needles. For circular needles, I definitely prefer metal because I like for the stitches to slide very easily. I HATE bamboo for most knitting. I think these Karbonz are the perfect compromise between the two for DPNs, which I do not want to be as slippery as my circular needles.

My primary complaint, though, is that some of the joins between the metal tips and the shaft of the needle are not very flush. It's not enough for yarn to actually snag on, but it's enough that I notice it when sliding my stitches across that transition. Also, after finishing only one project on one of the sets, the needle sizes that are printed on the needles have already rubbed off significantly. I think after 2 or 3 more uses, they'll be unreadable. I wish they had been etched on somehow. That's not a dealbreaker, especially because the case they come in is pretty nice and keeps the sizes separated well, but it is annoying.

This set of Knitter's Pride Double Pointed Needles has the sizes you need with that light-weight that the Karbonz are noted for if you knit socks. They feel so smooth, are lightweight, just the right length and with that just right tip for knitting with any sock-weight yarn. I use them with 100% wool, with the 80/10/10 wool, cashmere, nylon blend, with the 50/50 MCN and Silk yarn too and these needles perform just great with any blend. They come in a nice zippered case and are very easy to travel with too!

I got these for a great price on Amazon compared to my local yarn store. Sometimes I will still buy from my local LyS, but not when the savings is so significant. The needles have a great feeling in the hand, good weight/heft and I love the metal tip, which helps the stitches slide right on. I already have a ton of needles, but have not owned any Karbonz yet - I'm glad I purchased, but now I want to update the rest of my set!

Joins on some of them are not as smooth as others, but they don't really snag they yarn just gives it a little jog. They are long enough for higher stitch count for bigger socks which is really nice, I haven't had to worry about my stitches falling of the needles.

The first one that came had 6 of one size and 4 of another. Was promptly returned with the correct count. Do double check the sizes with a gauge. Lovely needles, smooth and sturdy. Just enough "drag" to not fall out when knitting socks. Metal needles always slip around for me, these are great.

Description

Knitter's Pride Karbonz knitting needles are the epitome of innovation and perfection! One of the most revolutionary needles of our times that combine the premium quality of carbon fiber with perfectly shaped nickel plated brass tips. Carbon Fiber is ideal for knitting needles due to its high tensile strength. It is lightweight and comes with a surface that offers excellent control over the stitches.

I love this dpn set. I have purchased the larger sizes separately; the larger sizes do not come in a set. For knitting lace, these have a great slide. I haven't had any issues with catches where the tips join the carbon fiber shaft. I found that knitting with dark yarns with these needles presents a challenge. I have painted a white stripe, with nail polish, to see if that helps. I will keep you posted!

These needles are very nicely packaged in a zipper pouch so you can keep them together and find what you're looking for. The tips are not too sharp but work very well with the superfine yarn I'm using. I showed them to some of my knitting friends and they were amazed and wanted to know where I got them so they could order a set as well. Very well made, excellent quality.

They are wonderful to knit with. Very smooth and holds the yarn well. Although there is no effect on the dpn the size printing on the dpns was totally gone by the end of the first glove. Perhaps some other method of marking for the needle size would be better and last much longer.

I bought this set after seeing a friend using Karbonz needles. I'm glad I ordered the set rather than a single size set because I would have immediately ordered the other sizes. I love the needles the carbon part is easy on the hand and the steel tips are smooth. I particularly like the length of the needles. They come in a zippered case that is nice too.

I may have to buy a second set. I LOVE these needles. I am usually a wood kind of girl but these have been spectacular and I find I'm purposely choosing projects solely so I can use these needles.
